a.
To
create awareness and understanding among the public of what a lack
of personal mobility means to disabled people, and to provide the
means to address this issue.
b.
To
improve the design, suitability, delivery, cost and quantity of
mobility appliances available to disabled people so that they can
use greater personal mobility to improve their own lives.
c.
To
promote awareness of the need for, and benefits of mobility
appliances for disabled people. These mobility appliances include
calipers, artificial limbs, crutches, wheelchairs, tricycles,
splints and all other Orthotic, prosthetic and mobility appliances.
d.
To
provide technical support to organizations and institutions to
increase the availability of mobility appliances and rehabilitation
services for disabled people, with particular emphases on making
appliances and providing rehabilitation services that are affordable
and accessible for the majority of disabled people, and which are
suitable and appropriate for rural and urban areas.
e.
To
assist organizations and institutions to establish orthopedic
workshops producing these appliances through technical support that
address issues of affordability and availability, or to upgrade
existing units in the same way,
f.
To
facilitate and encourage the exchange of information on mobility,
rehabilitation and related issues between organizations and
individuals through correspondence, visits, literature, training and
promotion of networks.
g.
To
encourage and organize the training of individuals in the
prescription, production and delivery of mobility appliances and
other rehabilitation services.
h.
To
establish a research and rehabilitation training centre; through
research initiate, encourage, support and implement development work
by education, appropriate technology training in the areas of
mobility, accessibility and related issues. To train personnel in
orthotics, prosthetics, therapy, community based rehabilitation and
other rehabilitation services to facilitate the enhancement of the
socio-economic-cultural life of persons with disability in the rural
and urban areas.
i.
To
work with relevant Government Agencies or any other person, body or
organization engaged in, or seeking in to engage in similar
activities in support of the above objectives.
j.
To
promote, assist in and maintain all activities carried on in
conformity with the above objectives of the Society and conductive
to the welfare of the beneficiaries by any other person, association
or organization, either Government or non-Government.
k.
To
foster awareness of related issues such as health, prevention of
disability, rehabilitation, income generation and other
developmental activities for people; and in furtherance where
necessary take up pilot and model programmes on such issues.
l.
To
carry on any appropriate activity such as fund raising, income
generation, collaboration with governmental and non governmental
agencies for the sustainability of the above objectives.
m.
The
society shall be charitable, non-profit making and apolitical, and
the services rendered by the Society will be open to all people,
irrespective of caste, creed, gender or political affiliation, with
a special focus on people who are poor.
