Livelihood is
not just any work or job – it must be freely chosen in
conditions of equity, security and human dignity. It is
understood that people with disabilities also have a right to
employment, work and earn income just like everyone else. It is
commonly perceived that people with disabilities cannot compete
in economic activities with non-disabled people.
Building multi
sectoral linkages the programme networks with other NGO’s
working on job placement for people with disabilities and
sensitize companies on disability and change their attitudes
towards employing people with disabilities.
Parents of
children with disabilities and adults with disabilities are
encouraged to enroll in the Sanghas (Self Help Groups) to save
money. Members saving regularly become eligible for loans to set
up
small businesses
and earn a regular income.
A
computer centre
in the slums has been set up with a view to train people with
disabilities for better job prospects. The centre offers a 3
months Basic Foundation course and 6 months Desk Top Publishing
course.
