Livelihood

Livelihood is not just any work or job – it must be freely chosen in conditions of equity, security and human dignity. It is understood that people with disabilities also have a right to employment, work and earn income just like everyone else. It is commonly perceived that people with disabilities cannot compete in economic activities with non-disabled people.

Building multi sectoral linkages the programme networks with other NGO’s working on job placement for people with disabilities and sensitize companies on disability and change their attitudes towards employing people with disabilities.

Parents of children with disabilities and adults with disabilities are encouraged to enroll in the Sanghas (Self Help Groups) to save money. Members saving regularly become eligible for loans to set up small businesses and earn a regular income.

A computer centre in the slums has been set up with a view to train people with disabilities for better job prospects. The centre offers a 3 months Basic Foundation course and 6 months Desk Top Publishing course.
