Bachelor Programme in Prosthetics & Orthotics

Course Definition:  Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) is a paramedical and engineering based health care profession which deals with habilitation and rehabilitation of physically impaired individuals. Typically these persons suffer from limb malfunctions, abnormalities or absence or loss of limbs or other body parts that prevent a person from leading an active life.

Once qualified, a Prosthetist or an Orthotist can work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic service to address issues such as polio, amputation, rheumatoid arthritis, cerebral palsy, diabetes, stroke etc. In addition to this, people would need as external support for movement and strength to manage their activities. The P&O professionals require to be highly trained and skilled to help people with disabilities to return to an active life by fitting them with appropriate orthoses and prostheses.

Duration:  4 years and six months of internship

Certification: Mobility India has received affiliation from Rajiv Gandhi University of health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka and recognition from Rehabilitation council of India (RCI) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, New Delhi

Eligibility: 10+2 from recognized Central/State board or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or mathematics (PCB or M) with 50% aggregate marks for general merit students and 40% in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates.

Preference will be given to person with disability especially women with disability

Career Options: Prosthetists and Orthotists are in great demand. The medical profession is growing and the P&O professionals work as a part of a clinical team which comprises of orthopaedicians and other medical and paramedical professionals.

Graduates have a wide range of career opportunities in International NGO’s, Multinational Companies , Training Institutions, Major Hospitals, Private Commercial Companies, NGO’s, Government Sectors, Research, Marketing, Private practice etc.
