National Abilympic Association of India
organized a Regional Abilympics competition
for South Zone a Vocational Skill
Competitions for Persons with Disabilities
above 12 years of age to showcase and
enhance their Talent was held from May
21-23, 2009 at Bangalore which was jointly
organized by KPAMRC, Mobility India, NAB,
Ramanamaharishi Academy for the Blind, ADD,
APD, ASHA (Autism) and Leonard Cheshire. The
program was inaugurated by Dr. Uma Thuli,
Chief Commissioner for Disabilities.
Around 33 competitions covering vocational
skills and leisure and living skills were
organized for the differently-abled . The
team participated in Basket Making, Cabinet
making, wood working , waste reuse,
Cartooning, Painting and Rangoli.
7 members from
Bangalore and 16 members from Chamarajanagara represented
Mobility India and participated in this event. Chamrajanagar
team won two first places in Rangoli [Jyothi] and painting
competition [Anand S] and secured one gold medal each. The
winners at the National Abilympics will move forward to the
International Abilympics.
